Difference Between Combination Boilers and Condensing Boilers

Many people are confused about combination boilers, condensing boilers and condensing combination boilers. Many think that both of the boilers are the same, but there is a huge difference between them. Today I am going to give the complete details of combination boilers, condensing boilers and condensing combi boilers and differentiate them.

Combination boilers:

These are the boilers which provides heat without a use of any hot water tank. They don’t require any water tank in your store room, which save lots of space in your house. Generally combi boilers are wall mounted boilers, which can be mounted on any wall in your house. They occupy very less space in your house. They can be fitted in your kitchen cupboards.

They use the technology which heats the water instantly and give you a comfort shower or hot water in your house. By heating the water instantly, these type of boilers Geen warm water save the energy and money which is generally wasted for heating a tank of water that is not used. Most of the modern day combination boilers are 90% energy efficient, saving energy, environment and your energy bills.

The main advantages of using combination boilers for your homes are:

o Combi boilers are not suitable for house with more that 2 or more bathrooms
o They are more expensive when compared to other heating boilers

Condensing boilers:

These are the most energy efficient boilers presently available in the market. These types of boilers are 93% energy efficient saving your energy bills and saving the environment. They use the similar technology used in conventional boilers, but the main different is that, condensing boilers reduces the heat from the flue gases from approximately 300 degrees to 50 degrees, condensing out the vapor produced by combustion of the fuels. In condensing boilers the heat exchanger is bit larger or there may be a second heat exchanger which hunts down the heat which is not recovered by the main heat exchanger.

By using the second heat exchanger or large exchanger they becomes more energy efficient than conventional boilers. Generally condensing are 93% energy efficient where as conventional boilers are only 78%. But the main disadvantage of condensing boilers over conventional boilers is the price. They are about £300 – £400 more expensive than the conventional boilers.

Condensing Combination boilers:

Condensing combination boiler is mixer of condensing and combination boilers. It uses the both technologies of condensing and combi becoming the most energy efficient boilers in the market at the moment. They doesn’t require any hot water tank or cylinder like condensing boilers. But the mail disadvantage of using them is its price. They are more expensive than condensing boilers.
